2005 Firehouse Red

Tamarack Cellars' winery is located by the Walla Walla airport on a former military base. It offers some of the best red wine values among all the Washington wines in my tastings.

The portfolio begins with the 2005 Firehouse Red, a blend of 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah, 24% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, with the balance Sangiovese, Carmenère, and Malbec. Dark ruby colored with a nose bordering on exotic, the wine offers ripe, sweet fruit, complex flavors, and a stylish elegance, all at a very nice price. Drink this tasty wine over the next 8-10 years.

Kudos to Tamarack Cellars for an outstanding, individualistic lineup of well priced wines.

2004 Syrah: Wine & Spirits, February 2008

Wine & Spirits February 2008

This wine is really all about chocolate, especially when first opened. A ripe black raspberry-jam scent emerges from underneath, with candied plum flavors giving buyancy to that cocoa'd base. With time this wine becomes more ample and fresh, both juicy and mouthfilling. A syrah for barbecued ribs.
