2004 Du Brul Vineyard Reserve

Tamarack Cellars' winery is located by the Walla Walla airport on a former military base. It offers some of the best red wine values among all the Washington wines in my tastings.

The winery also makes a Syrah. The 2005 Syrah is 100% varietal as revealed in its exceptionally smoky, meaty, sausage and bacon scented nose along with a generous helping of blueberry puree. The wine possesses generous extract, spicy blue fruit flavors, moderate tannin, and a long, firm finish. Drink this Côte Rôtie look alike now through 2025.

Kudos to Tamarack Cellars for an outstanding, individualistic lineup of well priced wines.

2004 Syrah: Wine & Spirits, February 2008

Wine & Spirits February 2008

This wine is really all about chocolate, especially when first opened. A ripe black raspberry-jam scent emerges from underneath, with candied plum flavors giving buyancy to that cocoa'd base. With time this wine becomes more ample and fresh, both juicy and mouthfilling. A syrah for barbecued ribs.
