2006 DuBrul Vineyard Reserve: Wine & Spirits

Review Score

2006 DuBrul Vineyard Reserve

High in extract, with scents of mocha, roasted plum and meat, this rich blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and franc wraps around your nose like a blanket. But for all its intensity, the wine has tremendous drive on the palate, its flavors bright and energetic, guided and lengthened by firm, fine-grained tannins. For a lean cut of beef, slow roasted.

Really nice, fragrant and floral with lovely clover and peach highlights. It's dusty and elegant, a truly stylish and very affordable Chardonnay. There's just a bit of sharpness in the finih gently fading into toast.

2006 DuBrul Reserve

The flavors though tight and reserved, are substantial and lightly earthy, and the tannins sculpted and refined.  Well defined and polished, the tight, tart fruit is enhanced with hints of mushroom and earth, leading into a pleasing toasty finish.

2006 Merlot: Wine & Spirits

2006 Merlot

This one has a cinnamon stick spiciness that adds depth and savor to the sweet fruit. The aromas are autumnal, with the smoky scent of pine, and it's ripe black cherry flavor gains shape and contour from the fine nutskin tannins.

As inky as black coffee when first poured, it has the richness of chocolate cake with a vivid red berry core that gives the wine its energy. For short ribs braised in red wine.

2004 Syrah: Wine & Spirits, February 2008

2004 Syrah

This wine is really all about chocolate, especially when first opened. A ripe black raspberry-jam scent emerges from underneath, with candied plum flavors giving buyancy to that cocoa'd base. With time this wine becomes more ample and fresh, both juicy and mouthfilling. A syrah for barbecued ribs.
