Outstanding Wines

Founded in 1998 by Ron and Jamie Coleman, Tamarack Cellars is dedicated to the production of small lot, hand-crafted wines from select vineyards in the Walla Walla Valley, Rattle Snake Hills, Horse Heaven Hills, Wahluke Slope, Yakima Valley, Red Mountain and Columbia Valley appellations. The winery is located in a restored WW II fire station and barracks at the Walla Walla Airport Complex.

Production began in 1998 and is currently up to 13,000 cases for the 2009 vintage. Wines include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Vineyard Reserve Blends, Syrah, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, and Firehouse Red.

Ron Coleman serves as winemaker and general manager. He comes to the job after a long career in the wine industry with experience in wholesale and retail sales, as a sommelier, and through cellar work for Waterbrook and Canoe Ridge wineries.

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon: Wine & Spirits

As inky as black coffee when first poured, it has the richness of chocolate cake with a vivid red berry core that gives the wine its energy. For short ribs braised in red wine.

2005 Merlot: Food & Wine, March 2008

Food & Wine March 2008

Merlot sourced from some of the state’s top vineyards, like Seven Hills and Tapteil, is blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec to make this streamlined, berry-rich red.

2006 Syrah Ciel du Cheval: Wine Advocate

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The nose exhibits smoked meat, bacon and blueberry, leading to a full-bodied dense chewy wine with plenty of succulent fruit, some structure and a friendly personality.
